Kanye West's 'Jesus is King' is Right on Time

I’m here to take sides. Yep! You heard me. Everyone is talking about this new album of Kanye’s and how it is dividing Christianity and that makes me sick. I am so sick of division. But I get it...I woke up this morning and decided I’m going to take sides too - Jesus’ side. I always thought I was on Jesus’ side but then I thought ‘have I really’? I made an oath to myself about a month ago to be more bold for God but it is turning out to be harder than I thought. Why? I’ll tell ya why...because the voices of those against you can be pretty darn loud. I have to give kudos to Kanye West for pushing past the millions of naysayers and testifying about his new found faith in God. Fist bump - high five - kudos my brother in Christ!

I honestly cannot imagine the backlash he is receiving. I know for myself that anytime someone posts something that pricks conviction in someone’s heart and they don’t understand what conviction is they will lash out at you worse than a mama bear protecting her cubs. And it can be painful. Seasoned Christians have a hard time dealing with this so imagine how hard it is for new Christians so excited about declaring their new faith. Then on top of that you have this division where so called Christians are questioning whether or not this is just a marketing ploy to reach another audience. Are you kidding me? Get over yourself. Who cares? He is using his platform to spread the gospel. Have you listened to his album? I have - not my style of music - but his lyrics proclaim Jesus! Jesus y’all...Jesus! The bible tells us God’s Word does not go out void. God’s Word says all things work together for the good. God’s Word says none come unless the Holy Spirit draws. This could potentially be the outpouring of the Holy Spirit the bible talks about will happen in the latter days! I’m getting excited!

Let me share something else with you. This album was so on time. With the elections coming, with sin becoming more and more acceptable in the world and the hate that’s growing, we needed this. We needed someone in the secular world to cross over and preach Jesus. Why - because unfortunately the ‘so called’ Christians are being super loud and really giving Christianity a bad name. Where has the genuineness of true believers gone? Where did the love message go? I get the whole sin thing...we are preaching against sin. However, this is careful ground and we must tread lightly. We need to preach Jesus and that Jesus forgives sin, that Jesus died for sin. Somewhere along the way it just became about righteous living and Jesus is getting left out. Judgy judgers got on their high horses and started to use the bible as a way to call out the things they don’t like in others or phobias they themselves have - but let me tell you a little something - if you are likely to overindulge, then you can’t call someone out for being gay. If you’ve told a lie even a tiny little one (no such thing) then you can’t call someone out for adultery. And if you stole a pen from work then you can’t judge your neighbor that had a glass of wine last night.

I could go on and on but my point is this. The bible says we have ALL sinned and come short of the glory of God. ALL! Take a moment and think about all of the things in your life Jesus had to die to cover. Jesus had to die - shed his blood - go through an extremely horrific death - just to cover those things and not just for you, but for humanity. That is the ultimate sacrifice, that is the definition of true love that is what we need to be preaching.

So until you can start preaching the true meaning of Christianity and get that ever so big plank out of your own eye leave poor Kanye alone. He needs our prayers. If we want to see true revival in our world then we need to start with repentance in our own lives first, then loving our families and others the way Jesus loves us. Very few can handle the hot seat of evangelism. I’m sure I will be getting a fair share of backlash for this post...but you know what...I don’t even care. Someone needs to hear this. Someone has been harshly judging their loved ones. Trying to make them do what they think is right instead of just extending the same mercy and grace that Jesus extends to us every single day. This isn’t about accepting sin or condoning it...it is about letting Jesus do His job! I don’t know about you...but I trust that if I do my part and not try to make anyone else do theirs, but just focus on my part and love others the way the bible tells me to, then God is going to be true to His Word and do His part.

We need revival and it can only begin when we start to point others to the Lord. We need to pray for the Holy Spirit to bring conviction and for Jesus to heal. We need to pray for God to protect us and our loved ones that we may have the chance to spread His love.

I’ll leave you with this. The bible also tells us we will reap what we sew. So take a moment and think about what’s been sewn in your life. Is this a harvest you want to reap? If not I suggest you get on your knees right now and ask for forgiveness. Repentance is hard but it is necessary for the growth of God’s Kingdom. He tells us in Ephesians that He is coming back after one church. We can make a choice today to be #teamJesus and start creating that one church and lessening the division the enemy has created.
