Voices In My Head

Do you have dreams? Plans? Goals? A bucket list? Does daydreaming and planning towards these goals get you all excited inside and you feel like you just can’t wait to get started? Every positive thought leaves you feeling stronger and even more excited than the previous and then BOOM...suddenly the voices in your head begin to try to talk you out of moving forward? Does a negative thought pop out of nowhere, so crippling, that you stop in your tracks and give up? Why does this happen? And so often too?

I have been seeking the Lord for a while on what is next for me? A few years ago He laid on my heart the idea of a Christian Talk Show. I’ve been blessed to co-host a couple and they are so much fun. I immediately dismissed the thought that this could become a
reality, but it always came back, stronger and lingering a bit longer. As I would dream of the impact this could have on so many I would get really excited. I imagined me and a couple of my Christian besties sitting around with a cup of coffee of course and discussing our daily lives and the power of God in them. We would share our testimonies with others in hopes of encouraging them to keep pushing forward. I even went as far as decorating the studio in my minds eye. It was beautiful.

Well as quick as the excitement came so did some pretty powerful doubtful darts. I heard voices in my head saying “who do you think you are”, “you could never do that”, “do you think you’re someone special”, “you might as well forget that, it’s too big, that wasn’t God”, “you aren’t smart enough, talented enough, thin enough”...and then my fire was extinguished.

I don’t know about you, but I have finally had enough. After some serious prayer and soul searching I discovered that I had let the enemy talk me right out of doing something amazing for God. He used my fears and self doubt against me and had won. Remember the bible says he roams around seeking whom he may devour. This was not just a warning for those in the bible this is a warning for the ages. We must always have our guard up and our armor on so that we can withstand the attacks of the devil.

Two things I put into action when dealing with these negative thoughts. 1) If my plans, dreams, goals and bucket list checklist line up with God’s Word then it’s of Him. 2) If I have peace, then it’s of Him. Remember it is important to spend time in God’s Word daily. This is where your discernment, strength and knowledge come from. You will find your answers there.

Lastly, timing is everything. If you have a plan then write it down. Let your daydream build as you seek the Lord for guidance. It may not be meant for right now or maybe it is, but either way God will lead you and feed you. Don’t let the devil talk you out of doing the amazing things God has called you to do.

Remember, with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26
