The Struggle is Part of the Story

The struggle is part of the story. I was searching for scriptures about peace and this little meme popped up and jumped off the screen at me. I had to stop what I was doing and write my thought train down. However my mind is going faster than I can type. Here is an attempt to keep up.

Why are movies good? There is an opening and an introduction to all of the characters and what the story is going to be about. Then the struggle begins. We watch these characters that we’ve grown to love and sometimes hate fight their way through a situation. By the end of the movie everything has resolved itself….for now. Lightbulb! If there was just a beginning and an end we wouldn’t stay interested very long. We wouldn’t feel the sense of peace, hope and excitement that we usually feel at the end of the movie when everything has worked itself out. (I know there is always an exception.) We wouldn’t have learned anything. How to deal, cope, endure, overcome and so much more.

Life. Every new situation we face comes with it’s own set of struggles, temptations and things to be learned. Why do we hate it so? Why do we complain? Because we are human. I am tired of using that excuse. I mean I know it’s true, but I’d like to get to the place where, when I see a trial coming, I get excited and I say, “Okay, God what am I learning this time? How will I be stronger when it’s over?” A long stretch I know, but hey a girl can hope.

Maybe if we look at our life as a really cool movie. Our story is being played out on the big screen. We are the lead character and we have a say in how our story ends. We are victorious, triumphant and strong. I like the way that sounds. The harder your situation the thicker the plot, the more
complicated the solution and the greater the victory.

Right now my movie is a comedy/drama. It’s about a couple with 3 kids that are trying to sell their home and in the meantime move in with the wife’s parents and grandfather. The plot thickens as things with the house (imagine the movie Money Pit w/ Tom Hanks...lol) start to fall apart. The chaos of 8 people, 2 dogs, 6 cats, 2 gerbils, and a daycare under one roof make for a hilarious screenplay. The drama comes in when everyone starts to feel the pressure of being in close quarters and major changes in their daily routine. The end...well we aren’t there yet, but I can imagine the beautiful new home and the peace of finally settling into a normal daily life again. The point is made that it doesn’t matter where you are your family is what makes it home. Maybe a final scene where the family takes a dream vacation with the money made from selling the old home. (I’m hoping my husband will read this...haha)

So when I saw those words “the struggle is part of the story” I realized something very important. The struggle is a very important part of the story. The struggle is where we grow. The struggle is where we learn. The struggle helps us to really appreciate the victory when it finally comes.

Everyone’s struggle is real. Don’t ever undercut someone else’s struggle because it isn’t the same as yours. God told us to love everyone. And love is an action word. Praise the Lord for that because as hard as I try, I just don’t like everyone...lol. Be encouraged. Jesus loves you! Your struggle is important to Him and if you trust Him, He will make a way to your victory. The final victory is already won. Heaven is yours if you believe.
