Before I started writing this devotion I wrote a blog titled “Boundaries are Biblical”. It was a necessary part of my own Self-Care journey. I needed to put some boundaries between me and those that weren’t benefitting my walk with God. I also realized as a recovering people pleaser I was losing myself, my joy and my peace by worrying constantly about what others thought. I would go out of my way and I mean OUT of my way to do things for others and neglect myself just to feel their acceptance. God quickly convicted me and showed me through His Word that it is okay to say no and boundaries are indeed biblical.
Are you a people pleaser? Do you find it hard to say no when you want to? Are you tired of doing and doing for others and feeling depleted and not even appreciated? Do you feel like your walk with God is being hindered by others? Yes… Then this word is for you.
John 8:59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
John Chapter 8 is talking about Jesus sharing the truth with others and how they refuse to hear Him. By the end, they are ready to stone Him. So… Jesus slips away, putting some space between Himself and them.
This is a clear example of biblical boundaries. It is okay to put space between you and others when others are draining you or just refusing to accept the truth in any capacity.
In order to properly care for yourself you have to make some adjustments to current relationships. And this is okay. Whatever you need to do in your life or your schedule to allow time for you and to make God a priority is blessed by God.
He wants to be your number 1 and He wants you to take care of yourself. And if others can’t accept this… well…. They will just have to suck it up!
Pray with me:
Dear Lord, thank you for another day to get it right. Thank you for your love and mercy and for showing me the truth in Your Word. Help me to set up biblical boundaries so that I may take care of myself and put you first in my life. Give me the strength to say no when I need to and yes when I need to. Bless me with discernment to know the difference. I pray I can honor you today in all that I do. In Jesus Name, Amen.
