I’ve used the phrase “God spoke to my heart” and “God told me” countless times over the years. Some people look at me like I’m crazy and those that have experienced it for themselves nod with understanding. It isn’t that I have heard the audible voice of the Lord but it is that still small voice the bible tells us about in 1Kings19:11-12. It is more like an inner prompting not a dramatic loud display of power.
These moments usually occur when I’m reading the bible, mostly during my prayer time and sometimes randomly throughout the day when I need it most.
Recently, I started reading a book called Pathway to Purpose for Women, and I can honestly say God is using it to change me in ways I didn’t expect. I hear Him speak to me every time I turn the page.
I started reading it while beginning my Self-Care journey. I am usually a pretty fast reader but this book is so life changing, not because the book itself has all the answers—but because it is helping me ask the right questions about my purpose, my calling, and my walk with God - So therefore I am taking my time to absorb, pray and make the necessary changes I need to in my life so that I can fulfill my God given purpose.
Before reading this book, I felt like God was done with me. I felt like I had disappointed Him so much that I couldn’t come back from it. From where I am currently standing I can’t believe I even thought this. For 20 years I preached this very message… God is never done with you, Don’t Give Up, You were created on purpose for a purpose - Yet there I stood - Feeling hopeless and worthless. This book ignited a spark in me that God has since set ablaze.
There are seasons in life when you can feel God stirring something inside you. I hadn’t felt that stirring in a long time… but man - It felt great to finally feel it again.
But here’s the thing -
You may not fully understand it yet.
You may not know where He is leading.
But you know He is inviting you to grow.
That is exactly where I am right now. I’m growing and let me tell you the growing pains are real…LOL
As I’ve been reading Pathway to Purpose for Women, I’ve found myself reflecting deeply on things like:
How God uniquely created each of us
The gifts and passions He placed in our hearts
The ways our life experiences shape our calling
And how purpose is often revealed step by step—not all at once
Sometimes we think purpose is a big destination, but I’m realizing more and more that it is actually a daily walk with God.
God Redeems Every Part of Our Story
One of the things this book has reminded me of is that nothing in our story is wasted. He uses every single bit of it for His glory and to write your redemptive story.
The pain.
The mistakes.
The seasons where we felt lost.
Even the times when we walked away from God.
All of it can become part of the pathway that leads us back to purpose.
Looking back at my own journey—from divorce, to seasons of questioning my faith, to returning to ministry—I can now see how God was working even when I couldn’t see it.
Purpose isn’t about perfection.
It’s about surrender.
Purpose Isn’t Just About What You Do
Many of us think purpose is about a job, a title, or a ministry role.
But I’m realizing purpose is deeper than that.
Purpose is about:
Who God created you to be
How you love others
How you steward your life
How you walk with Him daily
Sometimes the most meaningful purpose happens in quiet obedience.
If You Feel Like You're Still Searching
If you’re in a season where you’re wondering:
What is God calling me to do?
Am I really walking in my purpose?
Does my story even matter?
You’re not alone.
God reveals purpose one step at a time.
And sometimes He uses unexpected things—like a book, a conversation, or a quiet moment with Him—to open our eyes.
I still have 2 chapters left to go in this book and I know God isn’t finished teaching me yet. I am grateful for the reminder that purpose isn’t something we have to chase. It’s something we discover as we walk closely with the One who created us. And if there’s one thing I’m learning again, it’s this:
God always leads us to purpose when we stay close to Him.
Have you ever read a book that God used to speak directly to your life?
I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
If you’re interested in reading the book I mentioned, you can find it here. Pathway to Purpose
