Day 9 - What the Bible Says About Anxiety and Peace
In today’s world, it seems like, everywhere we look, we know someone that suffers from anxiety. I bet you can think of at least 3 people you know, right now. It can range anywhere from mild to crippling. Do you suffer from anxiety? Does life just seem to be too much for you some days? Do you find yourself in situations that just seem to paralyze you? I have.
I had never really suffered with anxiety before entering perimenopause… then one day out of the blue I found myself feeling this overwhelming sensation of pending doom. My heart started to race, my breathing quickened and I couldn’t focus. I fidgeted, walked around, drank some water and tried to distract myself hoping it would go away. It did… but it didn’t. It came back to visit me on a regular basis. Big life problems you would think would naturally bring on some fleshly anxiety… but I would have it over little things and sometimes out of the blue. It wasn’t until I started getting back into the routine of putting God first every morning that it subsided. And now when it tries to rear its nasty head, I am prepared. I have learned breath prayers and scripture to quickly squash those feelings that would attempt to consume me.
God desires for us to walk in peace. He tells us so in the scripture Ephesians 6:15
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Anything we face, God has already made a way out for us. That includes the feeling of anxiety. The enemy will try to use anything to keep you from taking care of yourself. It is your responsibility to be prepared for battle using the tools the Lord has given us. He has given you His Word to fight all battles, including anxiety.
Isaiah 43:2
2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
He promises we will not be overtaken.
My aunt gave me this daily devotion and I absolutely love it! It talks about anxiety and it teaches you how to breathe the Word of God through breath prayers. I give it 10 stars out of 5. It has helped me conquer anxiety and I can take what I learned from it with me anywhere… work, home, busy restaurants… anywhere anxiety tries to creep in.
I encourage you to search for scriptures on peace and repeat them to yourself daily. If you want to go a little further, I recommend getting this book and using it like I did. Breath as Prayer Devotional Link
Pray this with me:
Dear Lord, I know your desire for my life is to walk in peace. I pray that you help me rely on your Word to get me through each and every anxiety attack sent by the enemy to distract me from your purpose. Help me today to walk in you, trust you and be a blessing for you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
