Day 6 - How to Practice Self-Care Without Feeling Guilty

Boy oh boy! Have I got a word for you - You are not perfect… and everyone knows it. Shewee… doesn’t that feel amazing. Let that weight just lift right off of your shoulders. You know the one… the one you carry every single day trying to be perfect for you and everyone around you. Somehow we’ve mixed being perfect with neglecting ourselves to put everyone and everything first. Let me stop you right here… neglecting yourself is not from God.

Every morning that we are given the gift to open our eyes we are being extended a dose of God’s grace. Because of God’s very nature, His love for us abounds in ways we cannot even fathom. We receive undeserved favor, mercy, compassion and love every single day. And the payment… Jesus. Because of Jesus, we can live each and every day freely, knowing that a perfect Savior died for our imperfect selves.

It’s a free gift. It cannot be earned, it must be accepted. Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

God’s grace empowers us to live a Godly life. Living a godly life means following His word and applying it to our life and since we know loving ourselves is scripture based, we can continue to practice self-care without feeling guilty.

Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Today I want to encourage you to do something for you - just you  (and don’t feel guilty about it). Indulge in your favorite cup of coffee, get a manicure, have lunch with a friend. And while in the moment, pause and thank Jesus that you can love yourself guilt free because He loved you first.

Pray this with me:

Dear Father, thank you for loving me and for reminding me that I am supposed to love myself. Thank you for another day to rest in your presence. May my words and my actions show you my thankfulness. In Jesus Name, Amen.
