Day 5 - Bible Verses for When You are Burned Out
Have you ever been so burned out that you just wanted to quit everything? I know you have… this is a safe space… go ahead and let it out. You’ve thought about leaving your spouse, dropping those ungrateful kids off at grandmas and not going back, walking out on your job because they don’t appreciate anything that you do. You’ve sat alone and sobbed until you had no tears left to cry and just sat there gasping for breath. And in the midst of it all, you probably cried out to God… “make it go away”. Here is the greatest news you will hear today. He hears you. He sees you. He loves you.
Now… Here is the part you might not want to hear, but you probably need to hear. Have you done this to yourself? Hold up - don’t leave - this is a safe space, remember. I know you didn’t intentionally set out to overwhelm your life and to take on more than you can handle. We never do. Burn out starts with the best of intentions but it doesn’t mean that we don’t bite off more than we can chew (sometimes).
Today is a brand new day. I want you to start practicing saying no to doing too much and saying yes to spending more time in the presence of God.
Here are some encouraging scriptures to strengthen you on your journey to taking care of yourself FIRST so you can effectively and proficiently take care of others.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (My favorite.)
Don’t take this one out of context. God gives you strength through Christ to do everything that He asks of you through His word. When we take on more than we are supposed to… that’s on us. Rest in God. He will give you the strength to say no to others so you can start to put Him first.
Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Don’t go crazy worrying about things you cannot control. Pray and then listen for God’s voice to guide you. It may feel odd to have peace in your Spirit in the midst of a trial… but that’s how God works. Trust Him, not your feelings.
Psalm 91:1-2
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
This one always makes me smile. I can just imagine myself sitting beside a beautiful river on a sunny day, cooling my feet in the water, enjoying a picnic and God’s presence is a refreshing covering protecting me from anything that would try to harm me while providing a cooling shade from the sun. I don’t have a worry in the world because He is taking care of everything and I am just enjoying being in the moment.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Love…love…love this - We will be tempted, we will want to throat punch someone, we will want to scream, yell, walk out… we will be tempted to do the wrong thing… and just before we do, He comes Jesus on a white horse providing our escape. And the key is this - To know the way of escape, we have to know His word.
Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
There is no greater love than the love of God. If you haven’t yet - Accept Jesus and your Lord and Savior. It is the only way for you to know how to truly love yourself.
Pray this with me:
Dear Lord, I’m tired and I’m burned out. I feel the weight of everything, my family, my job, my relationships, my finances, I feel so overwhelmed by life. Please help me today to give it all to you. Thank you for your word that reminds me, I’m not alone, I can do this through you, I have a safe place to rest and I don’t have to be everything to everyone because that is your job. Thank you for your love and for sending Jesus to die for me. I promise to give you more time. In Jesus Name, Amen.
