Between work, family, church, and everything in between, as Christian women we often pour ourselves out for others—sometimes forgetting that God cares deeply about our well-being too. Remember, Self-care isn’t selfish. It’s stewardship. When we take care of our bodies, minds, and spirits, we’re better equipped to love and serve well.
Here’s how faith-based self-care can fit into your busy life:
1. Start Your Morning with God (Even just 5 Minutes)
You don’t need a 60-minute quiet time to connect with God. Faithful self-care can be simple:
Whisper a prayer before getting out of bed
Read one verse during your coffee break
Listen to worship music while doing chores
Journal one thing you’re grateful for
Biblical reminder: Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
2. Care for Your Body Without Guilt
Your body is not an afterthought—it’s a gift and the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Drink water
Take a 10-minute walk
Stretch while your kids do homework
Pause when you can
Faith-based self-care isn’t about perfection—it’s about honoring what God entrusted to you.
3. Create Small Moments of Peace
Peace doesn’t require a weekend retreat (though that’d be nice 😅). Try:
Lighting a candle during prayer
Sitting in silence for 2 minutes (phone off)
Reading one page of a devotional
Stepping outside for fresh air (don’t take your phone)
These tiny pauses reset your nervous system and re-center your heart on God.
4. Release the Pressure to Be “Everything”
You are not called to do everything—only what God assigns to you.
Ask yourself:
What can I let go of today?
Where do I need to say no?
What is draining me spiritually?
Faith-based self-care includes boundaries. Even Jesus rested.
5. End Your Day With God (Not Your Phone)
Before bed:
Pray a simple “Thank You, Lord”
Reflect on where you saw God today
Release what you couldn’t control
Even 60 seconds of surrender brings peace.
Gentle Truth for Today
Self-care doesn’t make you less faithful.
It helps you stay faithful longer.
You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to breathe.
You are allowed to be cared for—by God and by yourself.
Pray with me:
Dear Lord, thank you for reminding me how important it is to slow down and spend time with you. The busyness of everyday life often distracts me from taking time out to spend with you. Forgive me Lord. Please send gentle reminders my way to pause and spend time with you and take care of myself. Open my eyes to the areas of my life where I need to do better. In Jesus Name, Amen.
