Day 11 - Renewing Your Mind According to Scripture

How would you rate your mental state on a scale from 1 - 10? 10 being the worst. I remember a season of my life when I suffered with depression. It was crippling. I couldn’t muster up a positive thought no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t even get out of bed. Then something amazing happened. I found God’s Word. It poured life into my dry bones and renewed my mind. I was healed. Years later I would go on to write a book about the power of God’s healing Word. It is titled, Don't Give Up. You can click that link and it will take you to Amazon to purchase the book, if you’d like to read the full story. Later a movie would be made about it. I share this because when I was depressed, I never would have imagined my life becoming something so beautiful. All I could imagine was doom and gloom. I focused on the negative and no matter how hard the people that loved me tried to convince me I was loved I didn’t feel loved. But God - Oh but God - His Word not only showed me how much I was loved, it healed me and completely transformed my way of thinking.

Romans 12:2  Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

It is so important to take care of your mind and you do that by feeding it God’s Word. You get a healthy body by eating healthy foods and drinking the right amount of water… well your mind needs fuel too… and what you pour into it absolutely affects what you think about.

Here are some great scriptures to get you started. Don’t forget to write them down in your journal.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

If you haven’t yet, add mental health to your Self-Care journey. I promise you, you won’t regret it.

Pray this with me:

Dear Lord, Thank you for the healing power of Your Word. Help me to read and absorb Your Word and let it penetrate so deeply that my way of thinking will be transformed to line up with you. Guide my thoughts and bless my words. In Jesus Name, Amen.
